How to Pick a Phone

There are hundreds of phones out on the market and they all want your to pay to have them in your hands. Rather than going into a detailed review of each phone (which would take hours to read and weeks to write), I will simply go through the process of picking a phone to lead you in the right direction. There are many questions you want to ask yourself. I will go through each of them in the article.

Are you stuck to a plan or a contract?

This is the first question you should ask yourself. If you are still binded to a contract, then that will limit the phone that you can get. For example, if you are still binded by a contract with Verizon, you won't be able to simply buy an iPhone which works exclusively with AT&T (at least legally). Before getting too hyped up over a phone, make sure that you can actually buy it.

What is in your price range?

If all you can afford is a $20-$80 phone, then looking at the newest Blackberry won't do you any good! Be realistic when looking for your phone. Looking at phones at a higher price range than you can afford will just make you feel worse about your financial situation and make you crave something that you can't get which is an unhealthy habit.

What are you going to use your phone for?

Phones have evolved to do way more than make phone calls and you should think carefully about what you will do with your phone before making a purchase. If you are a texting addict then look at phones with a full keyboard like the Blackberry. Meanwhile, if you are obsessed with media, it is wiser to go with a phone like the iPhone with a large screen and great storage capacity. If games are your thing, then find a phone that has some great games on it. This might seem like common sense to you, but the amount of people who immediately pick the phone that "looks the coolest" or "all of their friends are getting" is surprising.

Once you have asked yourself those three questions, you should be much closer to making the best choice possible for you. I would go into an iPhone vs Blackberry debate, but that is a story for another day.
